{"id":4548,"date":"2016-07-13T09:25:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-13T08:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crash.org.uk\/?post_type=projects&#038;p=4548"},"modified":"2023-07-27T10:42:47","modified_gmt":"2023-07-27T09:42:47","slug":"sifa-showers-benefit-from-imtechs-expertise","status":"publish","type":"projects","link":"https:\/\/www.crash.org.uk\/our-work\/sifa-showers-benefit-from-imtechs-expertise\/","title":{"rendered":"SIFA Showers Benefit from Imtech\u2019s Expertise"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"simple-text-box simple-text-box--one\" >\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"one\">\n            <p><strong>SIFA Fireside is a drop in centre which provides essential services to homeless people in Birmingham to improve their physical, social and mental well-being.<\/strong> The charity supports clients\u2019 long and short term needs by providing free breakfasts and hot lunches every weekday, access to showers and bathroom facilities 7 days a week, laundry facilities, a clothes store, and a range of health, housing and training\/employment services.<\/p>\n<h3>The need<\/h3>\n<p>When you think about everything a homeless person doesn\u2019t have, a roof over their head obviously comes to the forefront, but that\u2019s just the start of things. Homeless people have problems finding places to shower; just because they don\u2019t have a place to call home, doesn\u2019t mean they don\u2019t want to be clean. Which is why the improving the showering facilities at SIFA Fireside is such an important part of the renovations. Heavy use and inadequate design have resulted in the showers \u2013 especially the men\u2019s showers \u2013 looking tired with mould growing in some places.<\/p>\n<p>On average, 133 homeless people in Birmingham visit SIFA Fireside every week day, and within a three hour window, an average of 21 showers are taken each day. In total, the centre provides almost 500 showers a month in an area currently serviced by a standard domestic extraction fan in each.<\/p>\n<h3>The solution<\/h3>\n<p>CRASH called on Patron company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imtech.co.uk\/\">Imtech\u00a0<\/a>for advice on how best to restore the showering facilities.<\/p>\n<h3>How patrons helped<\/h3>\n<p>After visiting SIFA Fireside Imtech\u2019s Roland Higgingson was able to specify a new ventilation system and provide expert advice about suppliers \/ installers of equipment.
