Herriot Hospice Homecare provide hospice at home services including clinical and complimentary therapies, counselling and bereavement support for adults and children in the Hambleton and Richmondshire districts of North Yorkshire.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Hospice was gifted a former NHS Hospital building, The Lambert, following its decommission in 2015. Herriot Hospice applied to CRASH for help transforming the former cottage hospital in Thrisk into Herriot Hospice at the Lambert, a modern hospice building that will offer in-patient care to the rural communities of Hambleton and Richmondshire.<\/p>\n

The need<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The two North Yorkshire districts cover 1,000 square miles between them. With no specialist palliative or hospice care services in the area, people in need of this support must make an un-comfortable long journey to receive the care they need and deserve. Loved ones visiting would also have to travel the long distance so they can spend precious moments together.<\/p>\n

Herriot Hospice at The Lambert will make in-patient hospice care accessible in the area for the first time, helping to meet the needs of the local community. The Lambert will also house bereavement support rooms, a caf\u00e9 and community hub facility \u2013 providing a warm and welcoming place for people to visit and stay.<\/p>\n

The Project <\/strong><\/h3>\n

CRASH visited The Lambert alongside Corporate Patron Arcadis in 2020 and issued a report outlining the hospices next best steps for refurbishment and conversion of their impressive building, the oldest parts of which were constructed in the late 1800\u2019s. As the design developed CRASH Corporate Patrons were able to assist in the following ways:<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

  • The initial report prepared by Arcadis was provided free of charge and highlighted several recommendations, including an option to avoid significant demolition and rebuild works and consider internal reconfiguration of the existing building. This approach was adopted by the Hospice, saving a considerable amount of money.<\/li>\n
  • JNP Group assessed the feasibility of installing a hoist track to the ceilings so patients can be moved safely and comfortably \u2013 their report was issued at a discounted rate. \r\n<\/li>\n
  • A Quantity Surveyor from Arcadis donated their expertise free of charge to provide costings for the plasterboard and thermal flat roof as proposed in the initial report.\r\n<\/li>\n
  • Kingspan agreed to donate the required thermal flat roof insulation free of charge. <\/li>\n
  • To finalise the project, Dulux Decorator Centre donated the hospices carefully chosen paint colours free of charge while CRASH supporter, Johnson Tiles donated discounted wall tiles.<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n<\/section>\n\n
